Who reads my meter?

In the Brussels-Capital Region Sibelga, your distribution system operator, is responsible for reading gas and electricity meters.

The Sibelga meter reader will come and take meter readings at your home every year (see also the meter reading calendar of Sibelga). You are obliged to give him access to your gas and electricity meters. Make sure that the meters are easily accessible and clearly readable. The meter reader takes the readings. Next, Sibelga validates the meter readings and passes them on to your energy supplier.

Were you out?

In that case, perhaps a neighbour or the caretaker of your apartment building can give the meter reader access to your meters. Otherwise within a month you will receive a letter from Sibelga. This asks you to read you meter yourself and pass on the information within 15 days. You can do this either on line or by telephone or letter. If you do not do so, your consumption is estimated.

Sibelga only reads your gas and electricity meters. Your water meter is read by a worker of VIVAQUA (link in French), the Brussels intermunicipal company for water distribution and waste water disposal.
